One of my four lines of Independent AI & Full-Stack Engineer (Freelance) work: web products for small businesses built on Next.js and Supabase. Small businesses need software that is cheap to run, secure by default and usable from a phone, so I lean on managed services and keep custom infrastructure to a minimum.

Architecture

  • App — Next.js. Server-rendered pages and server-side logic in one TypeScript codebase.
  • Data and auth — Supabase on PostgreSQL. Row-level security policies enforce who can read and write what directly in the database, so authorization holds even if application code has a bug — essential for multi-user and multi-business products.
  • Server logic — Supabase Edge Functions. Background and integration work (payment webhooks, scheduled jobs, AI calls) runs close to the data without a separate backend service.
  • Payments — MercadoPago with webhooks. Checkout runs through MercadoPago, a widely used payment provider in Latin America, and payment state is confirmed through webhooks rather than trusted from the client.
  • PWAs. Products install on phones and work like apps without going through the app stores.
  • Reporting — PDF and Excel. Owners get the documents their accountants and staff actually use.
  • ETL jobs. Scheduled jobs import, clean and sync business data between systems.

Named project

NovaMX CRM is a public example of this line of my work: a real estate CRM with public listings, an internal lead tracker, and an LLM-powered lead and property classification engine running on Edge Functions.
