GraphQL
Query language for APIs — part of my backend toolkit; this site uses GitHub's GraphQL API for contribution data.
GraphQL is a query language and runtime for APIs that lets clients request exactly the fields they need from a typed schema.
How I use it
GraphQL is part of my backend toolkit alongside Node.js and NestJS. The most visible public example is this site, which queries the GitHub GraphQL API server-side to fetch contribution data, cached with hourly revalidation in Next.js.
Why it matters
GraphQL lets a client fetch nested data — repositories, languages, contribution calendars — in one round trip with exactly the fields it needs, which keeps server-side fetching efficient and cache-friendly.
Typed schemas also pair well with TypeScript, so responses can be checked at compile time instead of at runtime.
