Hono

Lightweight, standards-based TypeScript web framework — the gateway layer of my multi-tenant conversational agents.

Hono is a small, fast web framework built on Web Standards that runs on Node.js, Bun, Deno and edge runtimes.

How I use it

In my Independent AI & Full-Stack Engineer (Freelance) work on Conversational AI Agents, I use a Hono gateway in front of LangGraph agents with Postgres checkpointing and an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, all in a TypeScript monorepo.

Why it matters

Hono's middleware model keeps cross-cutting concerns such as authentication and logging in one place in front of the agents. A thin, standards-based gateway keeps routing, auth and tenant resolution separate from agent logic, and because Hono runs on many runtimes the same code can move between Node.js and edge platforms.

Its Web Standards request and response model also makes streaming agent output to clients straightforward.
