Linux & systemd
Running long-lived services on a Linux VPS — I operate daemons with systemd units, restart policies and scheduled maintenance.
systemd is the service manager on most Linux distributions: it starts, supervises, restarts and logs long-running processes.
How I use it
For Real-time Data Systems, I run the always-on services — stream collectors, a message broker, runners, dashboards, a tunnel and alerting — as systemd units on a Linux VPS, with per-service resource limits, drop-in configuration and restart policies. SQLite runs in WAL mode with scheduled checkpoints, and alerts go out through a chat bot.
Why it matters
Plain systemd on one well-managed machine is often enough for a system that needs to run 24/7 — and much cheaper than a cluster.
